Freestyle is a method of dance play where the object is to preform stylish feats, as opposed to focusing directly on score or combos. Freestyle players will incorporate complex or flashy techniques into their play movements, including spins, handstands, and actual dance moves.
Freestyle players tend to develop intricate dance routines to preform during a song. Freestyle players will usually select lower difficulty levels, so that the required steps of the song do not interfere with their routine. Some dancers can even dance while facing away from the screen.
A freestyling act can also involve preforming stunts while playing. Billy Matsumoto won an episode of ABC's short lived Master of Champions series by playing Can't Stop Falling in Love ~Speed Mix~ on heavy while juggling three lit torches.
